You just moved to Queens, but you left your favorite coffee shop/bakeshop behind on the move; before it was right around the corner, and now it’s an hour away. Your to-do list resembles a litany of irritable insoluble. Everything seems impossible without that toasty cup of Joe and flaky chocolate croissant.

We’ve been there, too. Before that icy caffeine headache spiderwebs, here are a few new places to try on your coffee/bakeshop prowl in Queens, NY.

The Queens Kickshaw  If you’ve just left Brooklyn, you might find a home here. Encouraging business vendor transparency, affiliation with The Good Beer Seal, and promoting them as a bike-friendly business, The Queens Kickshaw has a menu of simple edibles and outstanding coffee. With a Korean-inspired menu by Chef Youngsun Lee, The Queens Kickshaw has quickly built a fine repute with the hip locals who know café quality and seek out the hot scene. Let’s not forget that they spin vinyl every Sunday and promote a bunch of other kicky events throughout the week.

Parisi Bakery  It’s a good sign when you can smell fresh baguette and ciabatta from miles away. Parisi Bakery is a rustic bake shop stop. They’ve been in Astoria since 1969 and source their product to keep it all natural. It’s difficult to eat this much bread and pastry and seem to salivate so much. But, if that’s somehow not working for you, and you just came for the java, their Italian brew is penny-pinching and wonderful.

Coffeed  Just a stone’s throw away is a sustainable café with a simple moniker and simple yet wholesome approach. Through small roast batches and delicious pastries, Coffeed is beginning to separate itself from other coffee shops in New York City. They are a partner of Brooklyn Grangein an effort to support local businesses, and they donate a whopping 15% of their profits to local charities. If you want to know that your purchasing power is sustainable they can show you their initiatives. Feast your taste buds on this green roaster when you want an excellent single-origin espresso, and feel empowered by your purchasing power.

Lulu’s Bakery Technique, technique, technique. Lulu’s bakery has been crafting some of the finest pastries in New York since 1999. Lulu’s boasts a handmade and on-premises promise to their customers. Charles Tola runs this family business and makes whipped and buttercreams like pastry ambrosia. The coffee and espresso here go hand and hand.

Artopolis  Another ambrosial bakery with fine Greek pastries. It never disappoints. Their confectionery is possibly unparalleled in New York; their deep-fried honey pastries will turn you on your head; the coffee is exquisite. If you’re in the mood for Baklava that could be served to Zeus and want to wash it down equally as well, try Atropolis.
